Media Assignment #5 →
I used Sketchup and Illustrator on the first two elevations and focused on line weight and texture. For the café elevation, I was thinking more about color and overall feeling of the space.

Anatomy of the Smallest Towns →
I grew up in what most people in the US would consider a small town; its population was less than 10,000 and it was 45 miles from a larger city. I never thought of my town this way, though,…

My wife and I often forget something when we make our weekly grocery shopping trip, and usually don’t realize it until we’re halfway through a recipe. Several times, we’ve forgotten more than one…

5 Rails Tips I Use All The Time
Over at Railscasts, they’re holding a contest, and the way to enter is to submit 5 tips for othe Rails developers. I’ve put together two simple Rails-based sites so far, and I consider myself to be a beginner moving into intermediate levels. I’ve relied on tips from countless other developers to make my first two sites happen, and I think this contest is good motivation for me to...

This is an amazing solar generator. →
Right now these would help generate power during peak times, hot days when everyone had their air conditioners on. It would be awesome if soon it was the other way around — primarily solar and a few coal/gas plants for when the sun goes down.

A spaceport in Wisconsin? →
Apparently, a bill was signed by the Governor creating the Wisconsin Aerospace Authority. The agency would research creating a spaceport in Sheboygan, WI (pop. 50,000). Sheboygan is on the lake and is in restricted airspace, making rocket launches possible. It would be the only spaceport in the Midwest, if completed.

The new Dave Amos (.com)
I’ve owned daveamos.com for seven years now, and it’s been through many redesigns and reengineerings, but I must say I’m very excited about this one. The design before this one had my delicious and flickr feeds providing most of the content, which I really liked. This one will do the same thing, but now I can also add posts, quotes, and other odds and ends. I felt like I was...
